If you're trying to register your phone number on the Do Not Call ("DNC") Registry, make sure you go to the official site at www.dnc.gov.sg. You can also go to the official PDPC page and follow the link to the DNC site from there.
TODAY online reported that the Singapore Network Information Centre has taken down the following websites with similar domain names that were impersonating the official DNC Registry site:
Interestingly, the company that registered dncpdpc.com.sg belongs to Mr Law Han Wei, who is also the director of Star Zest Home Tuition Pte. Ltd.. Mr Law and Star Zest Home Tuition have the (dubious) distinctions of being the first director and organization to be charged by the PDPC for offences arising from breaches of the DNC provisions of the Personal Data Protection Act ("PDPA").
Unsurprisingly, the Personal Data Protection Commission ("PDPC") issued a warning that organizations should not attempt to impersonate the PDPC or mislead the public into thinking that their websites are official or associated with the PDPC.
It's not clear why Mr Law registered the impersonating domain names, but his devil-may-care attitude benefits us all, giving us a chance to observe the PDPC's approach in dealing with non-compliance.
