Work Experience
Bernard heads the firm’s civil and commercial litigation practices.
He sat on the Subordinate Courts’ bench until 1982 when he entered legal practice. Since then, he has established a reputation as a redoubtable litigator, having litigated a wide spectrum of complex civil, commercial and administrative cases at both the trial and appellate levels. His cases have involved securities fraud, money lending transactions and contractual matters.
Many of Bernard’s cases have made their way into the law reports as well as the local press. Among these cases, Bernard has prevailed against a member of the stock exchange in Lee Kam Wah v Associated Asian Securities (Pte) Ltd [1991] 3 MLJ 286 and a leading local bank in Justlogin Pte Ltd and Another v Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp Ltd and Another [2004] 1 SLR 118.
Others
Bernard served on the Law Society Cross Border and Multi-Disciplinary Sub-Committees as well as the International Relations Committee. He also tutors regularly in the Post-Graduate Law Course for law graduates and is a sub-committee member of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce and Singapore Institute of Directors. He was an independent director of a publicly listed company and also holds non-executive board appointments of several privately held companies.
